MLB Friday July 29th Rangers at Angels Betting Preview

Texas looks for two wins in a row as they head into the July 29th Rangers at Angels betting matchup. The visitors picked up a 2-0 victory in the season opener on Thursday night, washing out the taste of getting swept over three games by the red hot Mariners in Seattle.

LAA took the loss in the opener on a Shohei Ohtani start, but even though he pitched well the Angels managed just 5 hits. The Rangers were profitable +200 underdogs in the opener, but game two is down to a toss up with both teams listed at -108.

Rangers Go For Two

Texas struck out 11 times over 6.0 IP against Ohtani, but they also managed 8 hits including a HR and triple by Nathaniel Lowe. Corey Seager went 3-3 with an RBI double as well as the Rangers were able to push their mark to 6-4 against the Angels this season.

The Rangers are just 3-5 post All-Star break but they are getting some good production from Lowe who has 6 extra base hits in his last 23 AB. Adolis Garcia is also 9 for his last 22 (.409) but Texas has still scored just 4 runs total in their last two games. Texas picked up the win against Ohtani in the opener, and will now face Patrick Sandoval for the first time this season.

Martin Perez (8-2, 2.59 ERA) looks for his third straight solid outing when he takes the mound in the July 29th Rangers at Angels betting matchup. The left-hander has allowed just one ER in each of his last two starts but he has struggled with control a bit with 7 walks over that span (12.0 IP). Perez allowed 3 ER over 4.0 IP against the Angels in his lone start against them this season, but that was way back on April 17th.

Angels Try to Rebound

Los Angeles is just 5-16 this month, two of which came in the last series against the Royals. If the Angels would have found any offense on Thursday they may be looking at a three game win streak so their play is improving slightly. Then again Luis Rengifo had 3 of their 5 hits (HR shy of the cycle) as Spencer Howard pitched 5.0 innings of 3-hit ball for Texas.

The Angels are 3-2 in their last five games, scoring 19 runs in those victories. That looks like an offensive resurgence, but LAA has also been held to 2 runs or less in 7 of their last 10. Mike Trout remains sideline with a rib injury and Rengifo is the only Angels starter hitting better than .300 since the All-Star break.

Sandoval (3-6, 3.64 ERA) being the starter doesn’t instill a lot of confidence on the Angels Friday night. LAA has dropped 8 of his last 9 starts and he doesn’t have a win since May 22nd. On the flip side, Perez hasn’t taken a loss since April 17th for the Rangers.

Free July 29th Rangers at Angels Betting Pick

82% of the betting public is on the Rangers in this one which is always a red flag, especially when the line has gone from just -110 to -108. Texas looks too easy here which is why the Angels are nothing more than a fade play in this matchup, as Los Angeles has been playing better the past week.

Free Pick: Angels -108
